VfL Wolfsburg chief Klaus Allofs has explained swooping for Chelsea attacker Andre Schurrle on transfer deadline day.
Wolfsburg splashed out €32 million to sign the German World Cup winner last Monday.
"We had a situation in which to André was available and so we acted," Allofs told BILD.
"In the summer, we would have come across other competitors. It would have been much more difficult and more expensive to obtain André then."
Allofs added: "It was a good deal for all: Chelsea gets the money, the boy gets to play and Wolfsburg gets a player we would otherwise not get."
