Liverpool defender Kolo Toure believes that winning the FA Cup this season could prove to be a springboard for success in the future for the young Reds side.

Following their embarrassing 4-1 defeat at the hands of Arsenal, Liverpool's chances of finishing in the top four in the Premier League this season were all but crushed.

Despite the disappointment though, Liverpool still have a chance of salvaging their season by claiming victory in the FA Cup and defender Toure believes that if the Reds are able to lift the 'special trophy' by the end of the season, it will serve the young players very well heading into the future.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo ahead of Wednesday night's quarter-final replay at Blackburn Rovers, Toure said: "The FA Cup is still so special. Of course playing in the Champions League is great and that's where you want to be but winning trophies is fantastic.

"That's what you remember as a player - when you get to celebrate with your fans. I've been lucky enough to do that a few times in my career and it's something I would love to do again.

"Winning a trophy would be great for this young group. When you win once, you want to win more. You get the taste for it. It would be very important for the young players here. This team would move up a level."
