James Milner says it does not matter where you lie on the table when competing in the Manchester derby.
Manchester City cut Manchester United's lead at the top of the Premier League standings to 12 points with a 2-1 Old Trafford triumph on Monday night and despite their rivals still being in pole position for the title, goalscorer Milner admits it is definitely a great feeling to salute in the derby.
"Regardless of where you are in the table, the derby is a derby and to beat your rivals is massively important," he told Sky Sports 1.
"We came here, we worked hard and got the win.
"We've got good momentum going into the weekend."
City will now prepare for the FA Cup semi-final with Chelsea at Wembley on Sunday.
