Manchester United must cough up an extra £4 million to Real Madrid if Angel di Maria wins the Ballon d'Or.
The Sunday Telegraph says the unusual bonus is the most striking of a series of 'add-ons' to the British record transfer fee of £59.7?million which United paid for the Argentine international last month.
It is understood that the extra clause was included at the suggestion of Real's negotiators, and representatives of Di María during talks with the United hierarchy.
United are comfortable with the arrangement, with senior sources believing that should Di María win the Ballon d'Or it would be not just an indication of the quality of the player but would also be likely to be accompanied by team success.
