Win so important – North Queensland Fury’s Talay

North Queensland Fury captain Ufuk Talay admitted last night’s 1-0 win over Sydney FC was extremely important in the context of this season.

Talay’s 71st minute goal against his former club allowed the Fury to climb off the bottom of the table and to within four points of the top six and notched up their first win at home in six games.

Talay was jubilant after the match despite the fact that the performance could have been better.

“If you're winning games and you aren't at your best it makes things easier to work on," Talay said.

"It was very important for us to move up on the table and we believe that we're going to make the top six, so every point counts for us."

And Talay heaped praise on both coach Franz Straka and the Dairy Farmers Stadium crowd for getting right behind the players, who kept their first clean sheet since September.

“Franz is very, very passionate about the game and he did well to get the crowd behind us ... he got them out there and a bit louder," he added.

"The crowd is the 12th man out on the field and when you can hear them roaring it does help the players on the pitch."
