Mark Wilson insists he is fine with being offered a one-year contract by Celtic.
The 26-year old right-back recently put pen to the fresh deal and is well aware that the club was not in a position to offer anything more.
Wilson has been struggling with injuries in the past few seasons and although he has returned to the fray this season with 21 appearances in all competitions and some consistent form, he says he was happy to sign a one-year deal for the good of the club.
"The contract is the big one for me," he told SunSport.
"I'd been thinking about it for a while now, but the games were coming thick and fast - important games at that. The club had more important things to think about.
"I had a week there because I was suspended to speak about the deal and after we did it was sorted quickly.
"I can understand without a doubt why it's not a three or four-year contract on the table. I understand my position and Celtic's position. They have to cover themselves as well.
"I wouldn't want to have signed a three or four-year contract and then felt terrible if I got injured again. That would be a bad situation.
"This is the right contract for all concerned. It gives me a chance to try and keep in the team for as long as possible and improve my fitness.
"Then maybe I can get something more concrete.
"That might be unusual, but it would be preying on your conscience if that happened. I would feel bad myself if I signed and then fell down.
"The security for the family would be great but I understand why it's a 12-month deal.
"If I did break down after signing a three or four-year contract I would feel terrible.
"I would feel I had conned the club out of something I didn't really merit."
