Wilson determined to make Portsmouth mark

Marc Wilson is determined to establish himself at Portsmouth.

The 19 year-old midfielder, fresh from a successful loan at Bournemouth, told The News: "I didn't really know what sort of contract the club were going to offer me, to be honest. I wanted to stay, so it was great they felt the same and have given me a two-year deal.

"Harry phoned me and said he was keen for me to stay - that's good to hear.

"When the manager does that it's reassuring, it makes you feel wanted. Hopefully I have a future here. The Premiership is the place to be and I've improved since my spell at Bournemouth.

"It's a lot different playing actual league games - they're more competitive with people really wanting to win.

"It's not as laid back as reserve-team football can be.

"My tackling has also improved. It's a lot rougher at that level and toughens you up. That can only benefit me.

"Harry's been great and went to Bournemouth to watch me a few times.

"Hopefully I showed him a few things - I thought I did well there.

"Every year is a big year when you're young and this is no different. Now it's up to me to try to impress in pre-season and show them what I can do."
