The talented midfielder hobbled from the pitch late in the first half of the Gunners' 1-0 win over North London rivals Tottenham on Sunday but Wenger allayed fears that it is another ankle injury.
He also confirmed that Wilshere will be available to represent England against Moldova and Ukraine this weekend.
"It was an illness. We had two sick players before the game, one of them was just before the game - and that was (Bacary) Sagna," he told Sky Sports.
"Wilshere was a bit better so I decided to play with him and not Sagna. Both were not right."
Of Wilshere he added: "He has a stomach bug, but nothing that will stop him from playing for England."
