Wilshere confident Arsenal now Premiership title contenders

Jack Wilshere believes Arsenal are serious contenders to win the Premier League this season.

The Gunners are hopeful of making one further addition before the transfer window closes on September 1 but Wilshere says the squad are good enough to land the club's first title since 2004.

"We want to win the League, of course we do," he said. "We feel we've been together a few years now, we've brought in world-class players who have had time to settle, we've added a world-class goalkeeper with all of his experience, he's been there and he's done it, he's won everything. So we really feel we're in a strong position."

"I think we made a big step last year, not just by winning the FA Cup, which helps us as players for our confidence but in the League we made a big step as well.

"Maybe we could have finished second but especially in the second half of the season we were dominating games and went on an unbeaten run. We really felt good about ourselves.

"The big thing is mentality. We didn't start last season well but the way we finished it… if we had played the whole season like that we could have been champions. If we continue our form from the end of last season when we dominated games with our possession, and we won the ball back in better positions high up the pitch, then we've got a real chance."
