Mike Williamson says the manner of Newcastle United's 1-0 win against Aston Villa was the perfect response to their 5-0 humbling by Manchester City the previous weekend. "The determination, character and persistence were there for everyone to see," the defender told BBC Newcastle.
"We were all aware of the importance on the back of last week's disappointing result."
"The lads were making sure we didn't capitulate, we wanted a reaction and wanted to show people and ourselves," he continued.
"There was a lot of personal pride out there today which can make for a tense game.
"It can restrict people in getting the ball down, it wasn't as pretty as we'd like but we ended up grinding out a good result."
