Newcastle United defender Mike Williamson admits they let themselves down in defeat at Arsenal.

He gave an insight to Alan Pardew's post-game debrief after United tumbled to a loss against the Gunners.

Williamson told the Evening Chronicle after the game: "I don't think it was about our energy levels or our character.

"It was about the quality.

"Individually and collectively we didn't reach the standards we did last week.

"That was the frustrating part.

"The manager said after the game that you can't expect to turn up and put a display on like we did and expect to win.

"It was a hard one to take."
