Wilkshire excited about new Socceroos style

Australian right-back Luke Wilkshire admits he is excited about the new era with the national team.

The 29-year old, who plies his trade in the Russian Premier League with Dynamo Moscow, is looking forward to playing under new coach Holger Osieck who has brought a far more attacking style to the Socceroos than his predecessor Pim Verbeek.

Saturday night against Paraguay in Sydney provides a perfect chance for the Aussies to test their new style and Wilkshire cannot wait.

''The new boss has come in, and he wants to attack, to go forward and make chances,'' Wilkshire said yesterday. ''I think especially in the Swiss (0-0 draw with Switzerland) game we managed to create a fair few chances without scoring but hopefully that will come.''

Osieck is likely to deploy a 4-4-2 formation against the South Americans which will be a nice change from the defensive approach Verbeek used in his four-year reign. Whether or not it gets results is another thing.
