Aston Villa No2 Ray Wilkins is keen to see early wins on the board.
Wilkins says there's the need to build early confidence amongst the new-look squad.
He told the Birmingham Mail: “We need to get back to the heady heights of Aston Villa's past.
“To do that it's going to take hard work. But we're certainly not about struggling against relegation before Christmas.
“The earlier you can win games, the more confidence comes into the team and we can start moving forward.
“The aim for me is to improve every year. Fourth from bottom isn't good enough for Aston Villa.
“The guys did fantastically well to reach the FA Cup final and beat Liverpool in the semi-final. But the bread and butter of your season is the league and we cannot be languishing at that level of last season.
“We have to be producing a lot more than that."
