Wilkins adamant Cole will stay with Chelsea and make World Cup
Chelsea No2 Ray Wilkins is adamant Joe Cole will sign a new contract and play his way into England's World Cup plans.
Doubts over Cole's future at Chelsea were rubbished by Wilkins yesterday.
"If he continues to work in the way he is in training and the game time he will get from here on in, I see no reason why he shouldn't," said Wilkins.
"I think he will give England something slightly different. He can play on both sides of the pitch and in different formations. So Joe has a very good chance. But as Fabio said he has not been too impressed with Joe's form over the last couple of months, that's why he did not make the final 23 for the Egypt game.
"But we are quite confident that Joe can get his form back and get into that 23 for South Africa. I am sure if he performs to the ability we know Joe has, then Fabio will take him."

sorry about the typos..... shyte laptop!
As someone said on Chelsea TV last night... he needs more matches and should be put in reserve games to get his match fitness. Do not agree with Neil Bah who said it is complicated as there are too many games at times which interfere with 1st team games. That bit may be true but Cole is not goig to get fit by layin 20 mins and sitting on the bench the rest of the time is he? Forget the 1st tem... get fit in the reserves then come back a new, fitter and sharper player. At the moment Cole is off match pace and we will lose him if we are not careful because he has not been given the opportunity to get fit. It amazes me that some people expect him to be thrown into 1st team football and expect him to do Miracles straight away... He may have the Same initials as Esus Christ (JC).... but that's as far as it goes.
Really hope he stays here though. He is 28 years old and his best days are NOT behind him!
