Lee Wilkie has rejected the chance of a money-spinning benefit game with Dundee United, reports the Scottish Sun. The United skipper has been forced to quit football at the age of just 29 with a knee injury.
Big-hearted United chairman Stephen Thompson has offered to stage a testimonial match at Tannadice for the popular club captain.
But Wilkie said: "A benefit game is something the chairman mentioned to me.
"To be honest, though, I said it was something I wasn't keen on." Wilkie - who will have his ninth operation to have a knee replacement in August - added: "I don't like the thought of testimonials.
"I wouldn't feel comfortable doing it.
"I don't think having a benefit game is right for me.
"I don't feel comfortable asking supporters to come and pay money for my retirement.
"I've definitely ruled that out."
