Wigan's Taylor reveals Bruce motivation

Two-goal Ryan Taylor has revealed how Wigan Athletic boss Steve Bruce inspired him ahead of his superb performance in Saturday's victory over Birmingham City.

Taylor said: "I did not know what to think at first when the manager said he wanted to see me in his office after training. He just said go out tomorrow and do well because the game may be decided by a set-piece. I could not have asked for things to go better.

"This time last week, I was wanting the ground to swallow me up after I missed a penalty and fired the rebound wide at Portsmouth.

"I now feel like celebrating with my family because it's always good to score and this was a very important win for us. We played well and I was made up with my goals. My left foot is not my stronger one but when the first one came to me, I just knew I had to hit it first time and in it went.

"The second was what you might term a poacher's goal from just a yard out but they all count."
