Wigan Athletic defender Paul Scharner has rapped the commitment of England's players.

The Wigan hardman blasted: "Steve McClaren has failed to find the right mixture of players.

"The youngsters are not ready to lift the team yet and the stars are either tired or not interested, or both.

"McClaren hasn't got the standing of the big English coaches.

"He is not a Bobby Robson or Kevin Keegan, so it won't be easy for him to handle superstar players.

"The FA thought that after the problems with Sven Goran Eriksson, they should pick an Englishman again.

"But to manage, you have to be a leader, whether English, Swedish or Austrian."
