Wigan's Kirkland hopes to catch Capello eye

Chris Kirkland is hoping Fabio Capello's appointment as England coach will lead to an international recall.

The Wigan Athletic goalkeeper has just one cap to his name after coming on as a substitute in Steve McClaren's first game against Greece in August 2006.

"With the England setup it's an even keel for everyone," Kirkland told Sky Sports News.

"I'm sure he'll be watching a lot of games and he will have people watching a lot of games. I'm sure he already knows a lot about the English game.

"But it's a chance, not just for me but for a lot of players, to have the chance to break through.

"I'd love to get back in the England setup. I've not been in for a while.

"The most important thing for me is to play a full season in the Premiership.

I've not done it since I've started playing football, I've always missed the tail-end of the season.

"I would take playing a full season and Wigan staying up this season."
