Wigan's Kilbane denies international retirement talk

Wigan Athletic midfielder Kevin Kilbane has denied reports that he intends to retire from international football in 12 months' time.

Republic of Ireland winger Kevin Kilbane has been the centre of confusion after saying he would draw a line under his international career days after the next campaign which was taken to mean the next Premier League season.

In fact he meant the Republic's next campaign - which is the campaign to reach the 2010 World Cup finals.

Kilbane told Wigan's website: "Even then I was only saying that I was considering it, looking ahead to what may or may not happen."

The former Preston, West Brom, Sunderland and Everton utility player, who has won 87 caps for his country, has confirmed that he is looking forward to making more international appearances.

He added: "It is really exciting times with Ireland. The win against Colombia just highlights that, and I am keeping in touch with the camp and everyone is really positive. I cannot wait to get back involved again soon and hopefully play a part in helping Ireland qualify for the World Cup in South Africa."
