Wigan's Heskey backing Owen-Rooney combo

Crocked Wigan Athletic striker Emile Heskey is confident Manchester United's Wayne Rooney can act as the ideal foil for Michael Owen in England's attack.

Heskey admits he is disappointed to be unavailable for England's Euro 2008 qualifiers against Estonia and Russia, having made a successful return to the team last month.

But he has backed Owen and Rooney to fire England to six points from their next two games.

He explained: "I'm delighted to see Michael back - the last thing he needed was another long lay-off.

"England need him because at the minute, strikers are dropping like flies, but Michael and Wayne can work together up front - they have before.

"They are international class players who play in the Champions League, so they should be good together."
