Wigan winger Maloney to become Chicago Fire's third DP

Shaun Maloney will become Chicago Fire's third Designated Player when his mooted deal is complete.

The 31-year old Wigan Athletic winger is expected to finalize a move to MLS in the next day or two and it has been revealed that he will pen a DP contract.

Latics boss Malky Mackay has already confirmed that the former Celtic ace is set 'to leave imminently' after the Championship club 'agreed terms with Chicago Fire' and it has now been further reported that he will be added as a third marquee man.

Scotland international Maloney will join Ghanaian striker David Accam, who recently joined from Swedish club Helsingborg, and Nigerian attacker Kennedy Igboananike who arrived from AIK Stockholm as DPs in December.

The BBC and ChicagoNow.com have both reported that the Fire and Wigan, who saw Roger Espinoza leave for Sporting Kansas City recently, have agreed an undisclosed transfer fee for the Malaysian-born Maloney who has also previously spent time with Aston Villa.
