After Kim impressed in a recent trial with The Latics, a switch appears to be on the cards according to the player's agent Kim Min-jae.
"We are still talking to Wigan at the moment."
The 25-year-old is available on a free transfer after his contract with J-League club Nagoya Grampus Eight expired in December.
Meanwhile, Kim's international team-mate Cho Jae-jin has returned to South Korea after failing to land a contract with a Premier League club.
The forward, who had unsuccessful trials with Newcastle United, Portsmouth and Fulham, is tipped to join K-League outfit Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors.
