Wigan striker Scotland delighted to get off mark

Wigan Athletic striker Jason Scotland was delighted to score in yesterday's victory over Preston.

He told the Wigan Observer: "I've played under Roberto for the last two years and I know he likes to play good football, which he wants to bring to Wigan.

"We're all taking it on board and trying to put it into our play, so hopefully it'll come good for us this season.

"I think it's kind of an extension of what he did at Swansea - getting the ball on the ground, moving it round and trying to play our way round teams.

"We want to keep hold of the ball and eventually create chances for our strikers, which is what we did against Preston.

"He also likes to vary his style depending on who we were playing, so I think will see some different systems being used throughout the season.

"Sometimes you have to learn to be a bit patient as well.

"That is key - keeping holding of the ball, building up your play, making the pitch big and waiting for the chances to come along.

"And, if you work hard enough and have belief, they will."
