Wigan Athletic captain Gary Caldwell says Shaun Maloney can make a big impact in their relegation battle.

Maloney has returned to first team action in recent games and made a positive impression.

"Players like Shaun are worth their weight in gold - and that's probably an area we've struggled this year," Caldwell told the Wigan Observer.

"When teams are set and we've needed to break them down, we've sometimes not been able to do that.

"But hopefully Shaun can do that for us between now and the end of the season - and we'll need that kind of impact if we're going to get out of trouble."
