Wigan's Martinez backs Kirkland for World Cup

Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez has backed his number one goalkeeper Chris Kirkland for a spot in Fabio Capello's World Cup squad.

Martinez believes that the 28-year old is one of the best in the business and has faith, that if he remains injury-free, will be on the plane to South Africa with the England team.

"I keep looking at the other England keepers and I don't see anyone better. His label with injuries has not helped him at all, but it should be a football decision," the Spaniard said.

"If he can play in the next 15 games I think he will be in the England squad. His performances so far have shown me he should be."
