Shaun Maloney has his fingers crossed that new manager Gordon Strachan can be the impetus for Scotland to swiftly improve their World Cup qualification standings.
The Scots sit at the foot of Group A qualifying with two points from four outings and Wigan Athletic's Maloney hopes the fresh start will help them produce a vital win over Wales at Hampden Park on Friday.
"Scotland are now at the stage where our chances have been written off," he said.
"We just have to make as big an improvement in our performances as we can, and see where that takes us.
"We've changed manager, so that will change the style of football. The new gaffer will have his own ideas.
"What is the aim for the rest of the campaign? It's not really been spoken about. It will just be game to game.
"The Estonia match was the manager's first gathering, so we did not really speak about the qualifiers then. I would imagine that sort of talk will come a little closer to Friday's game.
"Vast improvement in the performances is what we are looking at. Hopefully, we can beat Wales on Friday and take it from there."
