Wigan Athletic players belatedly received their FA Cup winners' medals yesterday.

Only three members of his team picked up their souvenirs of the Latics' historic triumph in their first FA Cup final.

The rest were handed to Wigan chief executive Jonathan Jackson, who dished them out before training yesterday.

An FA spokesman explained: "It is normal practice to start handing out the medals - but once the winning manager makes it to the Royal Box, that is the signal for the cup to be handed over.

"On this occasion only three players had collected their medals, but the rest were given to a club official, which is what we do every year."
