Wigan Athletic owner Dave Whelan has warned Rangers fans over Mike Ashley's buyout plans.
Whelan and Newcastle United owner Ashley aren't the best of friends.
The Latics owner told the Daily Express: "One thing you have to remember is that Mike is a shrewd gentleman. He's not a real football man and admits he doesn't really understand the game, although he understands it a bit more now.
"I dealt with him when he bought JJB from me. He is very honest and shrewd and ruthless - but you have to be that in business.
"I was surprised when I saw he had an interest in Rangers. It's not football, so could it be commercial? Rangers have massive retail sales and the fans support the club and buy the kit.
"I think it has to be commercial but hopefully it's football because Rangers need all the help they can get. They could be one of the biggest clubs in Europe. But can you run a club with just 10 per cent of it? And do Rangers fans want him to buy the club and run it? I've grave doubts about that.
"I think fans want their club to be owned by a fan, like me at Wigan. Every fan wants that kind of owner but he hasn't been like that at Newcastle and their fans are dedicated, like Rangers."
