Wigan to offer Baines captaincy to ward off Sunderland, Everton

Wigan Athletic boss Chris Hutchings is ready to hand Leighton Baines the club captaincy.

The Journal says Hutchings - who rates the defender at £6m - is preparing to make him captain in an attempt to persuade him to remain at the JJB Stadium.

Sunderland, Everton and Aston Villa are all chasing the England prospect.
