Wigan Athletic boss Steve Bruce is moving for Newcastle United fullback Stephen Carr.
Carr, 31, is out of contract at the end of the season and Toon will listen to offers rather than let him walk away for free next summer.
Bruce may face competition from old club Birmingham.
