Wigan Athletic have swooped for winger Rachid Bouaouzan from Sparta Rotterdam for an undisclosed fee.

The 23-year-old has signed a three-year contract at the JJB Stadium.

Latics boss Chris Hutchings said: "I know he has been chased by several clubs, so I am delighted he has chosen to join us.

"He has bags of potential and exactly what it takes to be a success in this country. We were very keen to get him on board."

Bouaouzan, who is of Moroccan descent, was persuaded to join Wigan after speaking with Wigan's two other Dutch stars - captain Mario Melchiot and midfielder Denny Landzaat.

"It's very useful to have a couple of Dutch lads here already," added Hutchings.

"They came into the club on their day off to speak to Rachid about us, which I was very grateful for."
