Scott Carson is focused on helping Championship Wigan to a top-flight return this season, rather than resurrecting his England career in a World Cup year. "I want to get back into the squads, but I think it's going to be difficult," Carson said.

"There are a lot of keepers who have come in and out now. Fraser Forster's playing at Celtic, Alex McCarthy at Reading is in the same situation as me.

"This season I'm just concentrating on getting Wigan back in the Premier League and hopefully trying to have a good season."
