Wigan Athletic are in loan talks with Manchester City for winger Shaun Wright-Phillips.
The People says the out-of-favour winger's £60,000-a-week wages are too steep for the Latics, whose owner Dave Whelan will ask City to contribute £30k a week so they afford him for the season.
The deal appeals to Wright-Phillips, who is keen to stay in the north-west for family reasons.
But City would prefer to sell him permanently.
