Wigan Athletic winger Victor Moses feels they gifted the points to Manchester City on Sunday.
The defeat leaves Latics mired in the bottom three, and without a win at home from four attempts.
"Obviously when you look at the players they have and the players they can afford to leave on the bench, it's going to be hard to beat them," Moses told the Wigan Evening Post.
"They spent so much money in the summer and have so many world-class players, and we knew it was going to be a very tough game.
"We thought we could get at them if we could play to our strengths, but it just wasn't to be. The disappointing thing is that, if you look at the goals we conceded, we gave them both away.
"Apart from that, we did quite well, we were in the game, and without the mistakes I think we'd have deserved a 0-0.
"This game's gone now, though, and we must try and get back on track against Preston on Wednesday."
