Wigan Athletic boss Steve Bruce is chasing Manchester City midfielder Michael Johnson.
Bruce sees Johnson as a replacement for new Tottenham signing Wilson Palacios and armed with the £14 million raised is ready to bid for the England U21 international.
Bruce was quoted £8 million for Johnson when making an approach to City last week.
