Wigan cool Costly link

Wigan Athletic have played down interest in Honduras striker Carlos Costly.

The Wigan Evening Post says Costly was reported to be a target after Steve Bruce's scouting trip to Florida last week where he watched Honduras' 1-1 draw with Venezuela.

But club officials say the claims are wide of the mark, the main purpose of Bruce's visit being to watch loan targets Hendry Thomas and Maynor Figueroa in action.

Costly, 25, is one of a handful of Hondurans playing in Europe, with him on the books of Polish side GKS Belchatow.

Last season he had a trial at Birmingham - after Bruce's departure to join Wigan - while Leeds were also keen on him.
