Wigan Athletic are closing on a deal for Manchester United midfielder Nick Powell.
The Daily Mail says the midfielder, who is on the periphery of David Moyes' squad, would stay at the DW Stadium for the season.
It is admitted that Powell - who was signed by Sir Alex Ferguson from Crewe Alexandra for £4million last summer - needs added game time in order to further his development.
And the Latics are planning ahead if they lose central midfielder James McCarthy. Owen Coyle admitted on Thursday morning that they had fielded enquiries and were expecting offers for the Irishman.
Powell's versatility - the 19-year-old's capability of playing across the front and midfield - is appealing.
