Wigan Athletic are edging closer to a loan deal for Portland Timbers defender Liam Ridgewell.
The Latics are looking to take the 30-year old centre-back on a six-week contract during Major League Soccer's off-season.
Malky Mackay, who managed the 23rd-placed Wigan, is looking to get the deal done before the weekend so Ridgewell can be eligible to take on old club Birmingham City at St Andrew's on Saturday.
Former Aston Villa man Ridgewell joined the Timbers as a Designated Player in June last year after leaving West Bromwich Albion at the end of the 2013/14 season.
