Wigan chief Whelan: Rosler convinced me in five minutes he was right man

Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan has revealed that Uwe Rosler took just five minutes to convince him he was the right man for the job.

The German departed Brentford to take the Latics vacancy on the weekend with Whelan suggesting he has been a big fan of him for a while now.

Whelan, who has brought Rosler in to replace Owen Coyle, is hoping the former Manchester City forward can bring his solid record from Griffin Park to the DW Stadium.

"I've watched his progress, you've got to see who is doing well," he told Wigan Today.

"Before you need a manager you've got to look and I looked across the leagues and I thought 'that lad's doing all right at Brentford because they could have got promotion last season', they were so unlucky.

"When he applied for the job I had in mind his record so I did fancy what he's done and I did like what he's done.

"When I met him, I was convinced, I would say, in five minutes that this lad was what I thought I was looking for. He had the right attitude, he said the right things and I liked his attitude totally.

"It only took me five minutes to think 'I like this lad and I think I'm going to give him a go'."
