Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan says they'll take care of new signing James McCarthy.
Whelan told the Wigan Evening Post: "I've met him and I've met his family, and they all trust us at Wigan - and they can do, because we'll look after him.
"We're delighted to have him. Too many clubs have been after him for him not to be a quality player.
"There were a few other clubs in for him - Wolves, Celtic, and I also heard Tottenham [Hotspur] were interested.
"But he likes Wigan, he likes Roberto, he likes the set-up here and he likes how friendly everyone has been to him.
"We are delighted he has so much confidence in us.
"He obviously believes we are a club that promote our youngsters and gives them a chance.
"Everything is going just fine, and it is one happy club at the moment, I have to say."
