Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan doesn't begrudge Roberto Martinez wanting to move on after yesterday's resignation.
Martinez will leave with no hard feelings on either side, especially after giving the club their moment of glory at Wembley by beating Manchester City in the FA Cup final earlier this month.
"It is remarkable what he has done for Wigan," said Whelan.
"He kept us in the Premier League up to this season and won the FA Cup - what more could he do?
"We have had great success together and we will always be friends for life - I have great respect for him."
