Wigan chairman Whelan expresses foreign concerns

Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan admits he has concerns over the foreign influence in the Premiership.

He said: "Foreign investment in clubs is on the increase and this is not taking place because the investors have a genuine love for the club.

"I still believe that eventually a salary cap system operating throughout European football will have to be brought in.

"We could also look at restricting clubs to three or four overseas players. Our game is being flooded with so many foreign players because of what is on offer.

"I also feel what I term the big four in the Premier League are now breaking further and further away from the other clubs. This is worrying because the gap is widening with every season."
