Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan is delighted with the progress Steve Bruce has made since his appointment last season.

He told Sky Sports: "I'm pleased that we've got Steve Bruce. That was the best bit of business that I ever did, and I probably ever will do in football.

"I paid £3million for him and he's paid me back so many times already. He's done a fantastic job, he's got his team together, he's happy with his team, we've signed the players that he wanted.

"He's over the moon with the squad he's got and we can't wait to get going."
