Wigan chairman Whelan backs Tamudo move

Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez is pushing for Espanyol striker Raul Tamudo.

The Mirror says Spain international Tamudo, 32, is out of contract next summer, out of favour and available on the cheap in January.

Wigan chairman Dave Whelan has already moved to sack Marlon King after his conviction for sexual assault and ABH.

That will allow Martinez to move in the market for a striker and he knows all about the Espanyol target man.

Tamudo's agent Tomas Duran is trying to arrange talks with Wigan and Martinez next week as he fancies a move to England.
