"We all have to get behind Capello because we all want England to be successful," he said. "I'm not really bothered who is in charge so long as we are again a major force at international level.
"I would have liked to see an Englishman in charge but it wasn't to be.
"It's an absolute disaster England, and the other home nations, did not qualify for next summer's European Championships.
"Capello has certainly had an excellent career in coaching and I just hope he can maintain his success with England. It's a very big job but he has both mine and the Wigan club's full backing."
