Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan says he'll back manager Steve Bruce in the summer market.

"Steve Bruce is doing a super job," Whelan told Wigan Today. "We are playing good football.

"He won't win manager of the year because Alex Ferguson will take that, but Bruce has been the best of the rest of the league.

"He is going to get the squad how he wants it. So I have got to look after him and see what he wants.

"If he is staying, and it looks like he is, then I have got to support him. I think there will be a big shake up.

"We need more in the middle of the field and we need another striker. I don't think Marlon King has really got there yet. I don't think he has adjusted to The Premier League yet."
