Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez is in line for a bumper pay-rise.

Whelan has promised his manager Martinez a big pay rise if he can conjure up a huge double.

After their FA Cup win at Everton, he declared: "If we win the Cup and stay in the Premier League, I will promise him a huge pay rise.

"This win has filled me with pride. I have unfinished business at Wembley after being carried off there as a player with a broken leg."
