Wigan chairman admits interest in players

Wigan chairman Dave Whelan has told Sky Sports News the club have been approached about 'two or three' of their squad members. Emile Heskey, Wilson Palacios and Antonio Valencia have all been linked with moves away from the JJB Stadium.

Whelan told Sky Sports News: "We hope he (Heskey) is going to remain a Wigan player. We don't want to sell anyone of our players if we can help it.

"We have said to Emile that we would like him to sign with us for another year. And that is what we are hoping he will do.

"But we are being approached, two or three of our players are being chased. We are resisting where we can.

"It is not easy to resist when you are playing for Wigan Athletic and one of the big clubs comes for you.

"It is unfair of me or (manager) Steve Bruce to say 'sorry, you are not going anywhere'."
