Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez has blasted Reading striker Pavel Pogrebnyak for his challenge on Maynor Figueroa.
The Russian striker was sent off when he caught Figueroa's ankle with his studs and Martinez is sure the defender's ankle would have been broken if it was not off the ground when contact was made.
"Maynor has a swollen ankle. He is very, very lucky that it wasn't ruptured. The ligaments in his ankle were stretched. From my view there was no doubt it had to be a red card. Figueroa gets in front of the striker and then touches the ball. It's a late, late lunge into the ankle. He is fortunate the ankle is half in the air. If he had been stood on the ground it would have been a fracture."
