Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez sees Chicago Fire winger Marco Pappa as an ideal replacement for Victor Moses.
Moses is a target for Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham.
The Guatemalan forward would be the first player from his country to star in the Premier League, if Wigan can secure a work permit.
Martinez hopes to secure Pappa on a pre-contract deal but Wigan are prepared to pay a fee to bring him to England before the end of the year.
The move will be complicated by Guatemala's low FIFA ranking however and the Latics will need to make an appeal, according to the Daily Mirror.
